Cotton Bowl Classic Records
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence passed for 327 yards and three touchdowns on 27 of 39 passing.
The
- 327 passing yards ranks fifth all-time in Classic history.
- 27 completions rank fifth.
- 39 pass attempts tied for ninth on the record list.
Lawrence’s three touchdown passes tied for third on the Classic record list, tying seven other players. The most recent to throw three touchdown passes was Bryce Petty of Baylor vs. Michigan State in 2015.
Lawrence’s combined 113 yards passing on his three touchdown passes ranks tied for 5th on the list for combined yardage on touchdown passes in Cotton Bowl history.
Lawrence had 308 yards of total offense (327 passing, -19 rushing) in the game, which tied for seventh in Classic history.
Clemson wide receiver Justin Ross’ two touchdown receptions tied for third on the Classic single game record list with 14 other players. The most recent player with two touchdown receptions in a single game was Alabama’s Calvin Ridley vs. Michigan State in 2016.
Justin Ross’ 94 yards receiving on his two touchdown receptions (52 & 41 yards) ranks sixth on the most yards on a touchdown receptions list in Classic history.
Ross’ 148 yards receiving ranks seventh on the single Classic Game record list. He earned 148 yards on six catches and also had two touchdown receptions. Ross is the 10th player to have 140 receiving yards or more in a Classic.
Clemson running back Travis Etienne rushed for 109 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries. He became the 56th player to rush for 100 yards or more in a Cotton Bowl Classic.
Clemson’s 20 points against Notre Dame in the second quarter were the fourth-most scored in the second period by a team in Classic history. The record for second quarter scoring by a team is 21 points, achieved three times, most recently by LSU vs. Texas A&M in 2011.
Notre Dame safety Alohi Gilman’s 18 total tackles tied for eighth on the single game Cotton Bowl record list.
Notre Dame’s three points were the fewest points scored in the Classic since Michigan State was shut out by Alabama in the 2016 Classic (38-0).
Halftime Records:
Clemson wide receiver Justin Ross set a Cotton Bowl record for most receiving yards in the first half of a Classic earning 137 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions. The previous record was 128 yards by Quincy Morgan of Kansas State vs. Tennessee in 2001.
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence set a Cotton Bowl Classic halftime record with 264 yards passing, going 19 of 26 with three touchdowns. The previous Cotton Bowl halftime record was 245 yards by Bryce Petty of Baylor (vs. Michigan State) in the first half of the 2015 Classic.
