USC SET FOR PRIME TIME, FRIDAY NIGHT SHOWDOWN AGAINST THE BUCKEYES

Taking time for one last practice session for the 82nd Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, the No. 8 USC Trojans conducted a short walk-through at Coppell High School Thursday afternoon.
The Pac-12 champions now play the waiting game for just over 24 hours before taking center stage under the prime time spotlight at AT&T Stadium against the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes. Head coach Clay Helton said his squad just needs to translate their on-field preparations to in-game execution in order to come out victorious over a talented Buckeye bunch.
“We’ve always had a formula of being able to run the ball, stop the run, play clean football, not turning it over, not a lot of penalties and play great special teams,” said Helton. “That’s been our winning formula, week in and week out. It doesn’t change.”
“When you look at that formula against this team, you’re talking about a great running quarterback in J.T. Barrett, trying to stop J.K. (Dobbins) and Mike (Weber) in the backfield and running the ball against one of the better defenses in the Big Ten, and really, in the country. It’s a huge challenge for us. It will take our best effort and we look forward to giving it our best shot.”
The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic celebrates its 82nd anniversary on Friday, Dec. 29. Airtime on ESPN is set for 7:30 p.m. CST, with kickoff slated for 7:40 p.m.
This marks the fourth consecutive year for the Goodyear Cotton Bowl to be a part of the ESPN bowl lineup. Bob Wischusen and Brock Huard are set to provide the call from the booth with Allison Williams reporting from the sidelines.
ESPN Radio returns as the Classic's national radio partner for the sixth consecutive year. Brad Sham, the "Voice of the Dallas Cowboys," teams with Rod Gilmore in the booth and Quint Kessenich on the sidelines to describe all the action from AT&T Stadium. This is Sham's 21st consecutive year as the Classic's play-by-play voice and his 25th overall.
