USC SEEKS TO CAP SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE
The No. 8 USC Trojans were back hard at work on the practice field Tuesday afternoon for their second workout of the week at AT&T Stadium.
With the enthusiasm the team has displayed all week, USC bounced through a nearly two-hour workout filled with energy from warm-ups to the final horn.
“They love to compete against each other,” said head coach Clay Helton. “When you’ve been competing against each other for three weeks, you’re really ready to go compete against somebody else. They are preparing extremely well and excited to get to Friday.”
Helton noted that closing this season with a win not only would put a cap on this season and give the program just its fifth 12-win season in school history but would also give his squad positivity to carry into the offseason and preparation for the 2018 season.
“We saw that last year. The ability and opportunity to win the Rose Bowl last year, how it helped in recruiting and how the momentum carried over to spring ball,” added Helton. “This is an opportunity for us against a very good Ohio State team to attempt to try to get a 12th victory.”
Today’s practice saw a special visitor make an appearance as former Dallas Cowboys star and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders stopped by for a few minutes to say hello to defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast. The two were with the Cowboys at the same time when Sanders played for the organization from 1995-99.
Following practice, the Trojans took in the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks taking on the Toronto Raptors at the American Airlines Center and also got to have some fun at Topgolf in Dallas.
Tomorrow, USC’s offensive side is center stage with the media with offensive coordinator Tee Martin, WR Deontay Burnett, QB Sam Darnold, TB Ronald Jones II, LT Toa Lobendahn and TE Tyler Petite participating in a morning news conference. In the afternoon, the Trojans are scheduled to conduct their final full practice at AT&T Stadium. Wednesday’s practice is closed to the public and media.
The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic celebrates its 82nd anniversary on Friday, Dec. 29. Airtime on ESPN is set for 7:30 p.m. CST, with kickoff slated for 7:40 p.m.
This marks the fourth consecutive year for the Goodyear Cotton Bowl to be a part of the ESPN bowl lineup. Bob Wischusen and Brock Huard are set to provide the call from the booth with Allison Williams reporting from the sidelines.
ESPN Radio returns as the Classic's national radio partner for the sixth consecutive year. Brad Sham, the "Voice of the Dallas Cowboys," teams with Rod Gilmore in the booth and Quint Kessenich on the sidelines to describe all the action from AT&T Stadium. This is Sham's 21st consecutive year as the Classic's play-by-play voice and his 25th overall.
