The process is almost complete.

The No. 8 USC Trojans went through a light workout Wednesday afternoon at AT&T Stadium in their penultimate prep session before taking on No. 5 Ohio State in the 82nd edition of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.

“It was a really good; a good red zone practice for us now two days out, 48 hours away from game day,” said head coach Clay Helton. “The kids are excited. It was a little bit emotional for us because it’s really our last practice with our seniors. Looking forward to having one last game (with them).”

That one last game is shaping up to be a classic for this year’s Classic featuring two programs that have combined for 56 bowl wins (USC 34, Ohio State 22) and 19 national championships (USC 11, Ohio State 8). USC and Ohio State are meeting in the postseason for the eighth time, but the first time not in the Rose Bowl. While the setting may be different, the intensity around this Pac-12-Big Ten matchup is as fierce as ever.

“Any time you get two great teams together, and these are two of the better teams in the country, and you get to compete on a stage like this in AT&T Stadium, it’s important for both universities and it’s important to both conferences,” said Helton. “There’s a lot of pride and a lot of honor that goes into this game. This is your typical Big Ten champion versus Pac-12 champion and, for it to be here in Dallas, how exciting is that?”

Following practice, the Trojans enjoyed a quiet evening at their headquarters hotel.

Tomorrow, USC is scheduled to conduct a brief afternoon walk-through at Coppell High School. Thursday’s walk-through is closed to the public and media.

The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic celebrates its 82nd anniversary on Friday, Dec. 29. Airtime on ESPN is set for 7:30 p.m. CST, with kickoff slated for 7:40 p.m.

This marks the fourth consecutive year for the Goodyear Cotton Bowl to be a part of the ESPN bowl lineup. Bob Wischusen and Brock Huard are set to provide the call from the booth with Allison Williams reporting from the sidelines.

ESPN Radio returns as the Classic's national radio partner for the sixth consecutive year. Brad Sham, the "Voice of the Dallas Cowboys," teams with Rod Gilmore in the booth and Quint Kessenich on the sidelines to describe all the action from AT&T Stadium. This is Sham's 21st consecutive year as the Classic's play-by-play voice and his 25th overall.
