BUCKEYES READY TO PLAY

The Ohio State Buckeyes closed a week of work and play with a walk-through on Thursday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.
The No. 5 Buckeyes (11-2, 8-1 Big Ten) will put their preparation to the test Friday against the No. 8 USC Trojans (11-2, 8-1 Pac-12) in the 82nd Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer had plenty to do before getting his team to the walk-through. His obligations included the head coaches’ press conference with USC’s Clay Helton in the morning and later the Goodyear Big Play Luncheon.
“The two groups I really want to thank are the players [on both teams],” Meyer said in his opening remarks at the press conference. “We’re two conference champions playing against each other, and I don’t think that should ever be lost in the conversation piece of what college football is really all about. So I know Coach Helton feels the same about his squad. They won the Pac-12 championship.
“And the Ohio State Buckeyes went and won the most difficult conference and division in college football. So thanks to everybody. But, really, special thanks to our players that got us here to play in this great game against a great team. Two traditionally very strong programs that I’m sure the country is going to look forward to watching this game.”
Of note, Meyer said that former Buckeye and current Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott would be with the team on game day.
The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic celebrates its 82nd anniversary on Friday, Dec. 29. Airtime on ESPN is set for 7:30 p.m. CST, with kickoff slated for 7:40 p.m.
This marks the fourth consecutive year for the Goodyear Cotton Bowl to be a part of the ESPN bowl lineup. Bob Wischusen and Brock Huard are set to provide the call from the booth with Allison Williams reporting from the sidelines.
ESPN Radio returns as the Classic's national radio partner for the sixth consecutive year. Brad Sham, the "Voice of the Dallas Cowboys," teams with Rod Gilmore in the booth and Quint Kessenich on the sidelines to describe all the action from AT&T Stadium. This is Sham's 21st consecutive year as the Classic's play-by-play voice and his 25th overall.
