Wisconsin’s Troy Fumagalli earned the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic’s J. Curtis Stanford Offensive MVP Award after posting a team-high 83 reception yards and one touchdown.

The 6-6, 248lb tight end has rounded out the 2016 season having produced the third-most yards in his career after notching a 100-yard game versus LSU in the season opener. The junior finished the day with six receptions and converted four of Wisconsin’s seven third downs.

“It's a great feeling to come out on top,” said Fumagalli after the game. “It's been a heck of a journey especially with the senior class to give them the opportunities they had and send them out the right way.”

Fumagalli added fire under the team’s belt after pulling down a difficult one handed catch on a key first quarter scoring drive to extend the Badgers’ lead on the No. 12 Broncos to 14-0. The 20-yard catch came on a third and 13 play from the Western Michigan 32-yard line to move Wisconsin to the WMU 12.

“I've been really fortunate,” said Coach Paul Chryst. “We've had a number of really good tight ends at Wisconsin. And they're all different. But Fuma [Troy Fumagalli] has got the ability to be a matchup problem for a number of teams or a number of individuals if they're playing him man. And he's big. He's skilled. He runs well enough and has a great knack to separate.

Fumagalli closes the 2016 campaign by surpassing the 1,000 career receiving yard plateau during the game, tallying 1,080 total yards.
