Wisconsin joins Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic champions Michigan State in 2015, UCLA in 1998, Brigham Young in 1997, Florida State in 1992 and Miami (Fla.) in 1991 as teams to score triumphs in their first Classic appearances over the past 25 seasons.
Wisconsin captures its third consecutive bowl game after topping Auburn 34-31 in the 2014 Outback Bowl and Southern California 23-21 in the 2015 Holiday Bowl. The Badgers are now 14-14 all-time in bowl games, and UW has made 15 consecutive bowl appearances, the longest current bowl streak in the Big Ten.
Wisconsin’s victory today ends Western Michigan’s 15-game winning streak, which was the second-longest active streak in the FBS. Teams without a loss entering the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic are now 5-9-3 all-time.
The Wisconsin defense held Western Michigan to a season-low 16 points. The previous low was 22 in the season-opening win over Northwestern.
Wisconsin passers were 13-of-14 on the day. TE Troy Fumagalli caught six passes, running backs Corey Clement and Dare Ogunbowale each caught two and wide receivers George Rushing (2) and Robert Wheelright (1) combined for three.

WESTERN MICHIGAN POST GAME NOTES
Wide receiver Corey Davis ended his Western Michigan career with six receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown. Davis finished his career with 329 receptions for 5,285 receiving yards and 52 touchdown catches. He is the all-time FBS leader in receiving yards.
Davis’ fourth-quarter touchdown reception was the 52nd of his career. He ends his collegiate career in second place in the FBS career list, trailing only Rice’s Jarrett Dillard, who had 60 from 2005-08. He is the Mid-American Conference’s all-time TD reception leader.
Davis’ six receptions gave him 329 for his career, fourth on the FBS career list.
Quarterback Zach Terrell ended his WMU career with 157 passing yards on 16 of 28 passing with one touchdown. He also rushed seven times for 14 yards and a touchdown.
Terrell finished his college career with 12,104 passing yards on 908 of 1387 passing with 96 touchdown passes. He rushed 277 times for 620 yards and 13 touchdowns in his career.
Terrell is Western Michigan’s all-time leader in passing yards (12,104) and is second in school history in career passing TDs (96) and completions (908).
Terrell, after a touchdown pass and an interception, finished his 2016 season with 33 TDs against only four touchdowns.
Placekicker Butch Hampton set a single season MAC record with 128 points.
