WISCONSIN CONDUCTS SECOND WORKOUT AT AT&T STADIUM
Wisconsin was back on the practice field Wednesday morning for a nearly two-hour workout at AT&T Stadium.
The No. 8 Badgers (10-3, 7-2 Big Ten) conducted a spirited practice session in helmets and pads that touched on all three phases of the team’s game plan to face the No. 15 Western Michigan Broncos (13-0, 9-0 Mid-American) in the 81st edition of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
“It was a heavier work day. The kids approached it the right way. We got some work done so it was good,” said head coach Paul Chryst.
Wisconsin’s approach to spoil the Broncos’ Cinderella run, Chryst mentioned, may come down to scrappiness of his squad. The Badgers put themselves in position for a New Year’s Six bowl by closing the regular season with six-straight wins to earn a spot in the Big Ten Football Championship Game after rebounding from back-to-back losses in October at then-fourth ranked Michigan and against second-ranked Ohio State.
“That’s one of the qualities I’ve appreciated about this team,” said Chryst. “They have done a great job of just being in the moment, in whatever way that may be. They make the most of it and, every day, they come to work to get better. We’ve had a lot of challenges along the way and they have embraced those challenges.”
Following practice, UW is set to enjoy a quiet afternoon at its headquarters hotel and a private team event later in the evening.
The Badgers have a busy day on tap on Thursday with another morning practice followed by a visit to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas prior to the team’s defensive news conference featuring defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox, OLB Vince Biegel, ILB T.J. Edwards, S Leo Musso, CB Sojourn Shelton and OLB T.J. Watt. Tomorrow’s practice at AT&T Stadium is once again closed to the public and open to media only for the first 15 minutes.
The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic celebrates its 81st anniversary on Monday, January 2. Airtime on ESPN is set for noon CST, with kickoff slated for 12:01 p.m.
This marks the third consecutive year for the Goodyear Cotton Bowl to be a part of the ESPN bowl lineup. Bob Wischusen and Brock Huard will provide the call from the booth with Allison Williams reporting from the sideline.
ESPN Radio returns as the Classic's national radio partner for the fifth consecutive year. Brad Sham, the "Voice of the Dallas Cowboys," teams with Rod Gilmore in the booth and Quint Kessenich on the sideline to describe all the action from AT&T Stadium. This is Sham's 20th consecutive year as the Classic's play-by-play voice and his 24th overall.
