JAY McAULEY NAMED CHAIRMAN
North Texas businessman Jay McAuley has been elected to a two-year term as Chairman of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association (CBAA), the sponsoring agency of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
McAuley is the President of Texas Health Resources Foundation based in Arlington. His involvement with the CBAA dates back to 2006 as a member of the Board of Directors. He has served as Vice-Chairman on the Classic’s Executive Committee for the past five years.
McAuley becomes the CBAA’s 39th Chairman and succeeds Dan Novakov who will remain on the Executive Committee as the Immediate Past Chairman. In his position as Chairman, McAuley will coordinate all facets of business affairs for the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and will manage the game’s activities as a member of the College Football Playoff. The 81st Classic is scheduled for a Noon kickoff on January 2, 2017.
The Dallas native is a 1981 graduate of St. Mark’s School of Texas. He attended Texas Tech University and received a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1986. McAuley was a four-year football letterman as an offensive lineman with the Red Raiders. After graduation, he worked as a petroleum engineer and earned his M.B.A. from SMU.
Switching careers in 1993 to Secondary School Advancement, McAuley returned to St. Mark’s as the school’s Director of Alumni Relations and Head Football Coach. During his 12 years at St. Mark’s he also held positions as Director of Major Gifts and Director of Development.
McAuley moved to the Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation in 2004 as Vice President for Strategy and Special Initiatives where he coordinated the “Legacy of Care” capital campaign, the largest fundraising effort in the hospital’s 40-year history. In 2008, he was promoted to President of Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation, and in 2013 McAuley was named to his current position as President of Texas Health Resources Foundation.
"The opportunity to lead the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association is extremely humbling,” said McAuley. “The first football game I ever saw was in Cotton Bowl Stadium. I have tremendous respect and admiration for the men and women who have guided this organization over the past 80 years. My goal is for our game to continue to build upon their immense accomplishments.
“I may be biased, but I believe the Goodyear Cotton Bowl to be the premier event in all of college football,” McAuley said. “As good as it is, our challenge is to continue to find ways to make the game and its impact on the community that much better. I’m looking forward to traveling around the country these next two years to spread the word about this remarkable event and its impact on North Texas and beyond.”
In addition to his work with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, McAuley is also a member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and the executive board of the Circle 10 Council of the Boys Scouts of America. He and his wife Jennifer have one adult son, Jake.
Joining McAuley and Novakov on the Executive Committee are Dave Brown, J. J. Gomez, Carl Ice and Bryant Patton, each serving in their first term on the leadership committee. Past CBAA Chairman Tommy Bain will continue to serve with the group in an advisory role, along with Legal Counsel W. Mike Baggett. Fin Ewing III leads the Playoff Committee.
Brown serves as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the American Airlines Center in Dallas where he oversees event programming, facility services and capital improvements. Brown has been involved in major arena operations for more than 25 years. He holds a degree in Business Management from Texas A&M University. Brown is a Past-Chairman of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau and serves on a number of civic boards including Downtown Dallas, Inc., Dallas All Sports Association, and the Dallas Sports Commission.
Gomez has worked in the banking and financial services industry for more than 26 years. Currently, he serves as President of PlainsCapital Bank-Victory Park in Dallas. Gomez joined PlainsCapital in 1989 and has held many diverse positions with the bank. He is a recipient of the coveted PlainsCapital PRIDE Award. Gomez earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Texas Tech University. He is involved in many community and business organizations that include the Baptist Church Loan Corporation Board of Directors, New Friends New Life Men’s Advocacy Group Board, the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, and Park Cities Baptist Church.
Ice is the President and Chief Executive Officer for BNSF Railway. Under his guidance, BNSF has been recognized for safety, on-time performance and productivity. Ice was recently honored as Railway Age's 2015 Railroader of the Year. He began his career in the railroad industry with Santa Fe Railway in 1979. Ice earned an industrial engineering degree from Kansas State University. He currently serves on the Kansas State Foundation Board of Directors, the Salvation Army Advisory Board as DFW Chairman, and the SMU Lyle School of Engineering Executive Board.
Patton is the President of BRYCAP Investments, Inc., of Dallas. His business expertise includes many phases of the independent oil, gas and midstream business. Patton spent 20 years as a principal in two oil and gas exploration and production companies, eight years as an institutional portfolio manager, and the last 10 years creating management ownership and providing capital formation strategy to several energy companies. Patton is the current President of the Dallas Petroleum Club. He attended Texas Christian University, UT-Dallas, and Richland College.
