COTTON BOWL CLASSIC RECORDS

Michigan State became the eighth team to be shut out in Cotton Bowl history and the first since LSU shut out Texas in the 1963 Classic. There have been two scoreless ties in Cotton Bowl history.

Alabama also recorded the most decisive shutout in Cotton Bowl history (38-0). The previous record was held by Oklahoma A&M who recorded a 34-0 shutout over TCU.

Alabama’s 38 point win over Michigan State was the third-largest point differential in Cotton Bowl history.

Alabama’s Cyrus Jones’ 57-yard punt return for a touchdown was the fifth longest punt return for a TD in Cotton Bowl history. It also marked the first punt return for a touchdown in the Cotton Bowl since Arkansas’ Joe Adams returned a punt for 51 yards and a score against Kansas State in 2012.

Alabama’s Cyrus Jones 80 punt return yards ranks third in Cotton Bowl history. His five returns also rank tied for second with three other players.

Alabama’s Calvin Ridley 12 points scored receiving (2 TD) tied for third in Cotton Bowl history.

Alabama’s 21 third-quarter points marked the second-highest scoring output by a single team in the third quarter in Cotton Bowl history.

Michigan State’s 29 net rushing yards is the sixth-lowest rushing output in Cotton Bowl history. MSU’s 1.1 yards per rush average ranked as the eighth-lowest in Classic history.

Alabama quarterback Jake Coker’s 25 completions ranks ninth in Cotton Bowl history.

Alabama quarterback Jake Coker’s .833 pass completion percentage (25-30) ranks second in Cotton Bowl history, trailing only the .917 by Texas’ Bobby Layne (11-12) vs. Missouri in 1946.

Alabama’s .833 pass completion percentage (25 completions, 30 attempts) ranks second in Cotton Bowl history. Texas had a .929 (13-14) completion percentage in the 1946 game against Missouri.
