AT&T COTTON BOWL CLASSIC ART CONTEST NOW ACCEPTING ENTRIES
The 2013 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic Art Contest has begun and is now accepting entries from local young artists. All North Texas students in first through sixth grade are invited to participate. Art contest materials, including the illustration template, can be downloaded online at www.attcottonbowl.com/fan-zone/art-contest/. The deadline to mail in the illustrations is Friday, October 11th. The winners are determined by a select group of judges.
“For 17 years now we have enjoyed engaging with the younger sports fans in the Metroplex through our art contest,” AT&T Cotton Bowl President Rick Baker said, “We hope that art teachers from across the North Texas community will encourage their students to participate.”
A total of 18 young artists comprising three age categories (first and second grade, third and fourth grade, fifth and sixth grade) will be honored at their respective schools in recognition of their winning works of art. Additionally, each winner will receive tickets to the 2014 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Throughout the holiday season, the winning artwork will be on display at AT&T Stadium. The artwork will also be featured on the 60-yard scoreboard at the stadium during the Classic on Friday, January 3rd. The illustrations not selected as winners will be used as placemats during the AT&T Cotton Bowl Big Play Luncheon.
“We want to encourage all elementary school art teachers to participate and make the AT&T Cotton Bowl Art Contest part of their classroom curriculum,” Baker said. “As an incentive, not only can the young artists win tickets and great prizes, but the teachers of winning students are also rewarded for their participation.”
The 2013 game saw a former AT&T Cotton Bowl Art Contest winner return as a student-athlete to play at the Classic. Austin Woods, a deep snapper for the University of Oklahoma, was a two-time winner of the Art Contest as a first and second grader at Wallace Elementary School in Dallas. He is the first art contest winner to play in the AT&T Cotton bowl Classic.
The AT&T Cotton Bowl Art Contest is one of several community-based events created to promote goodwill with fans of the annual Classic.
